Dr. Gloria Hom, recently retired, was the Chairman and Professor in the Economics Department at Mission College and Division Chairman for the Social Science. She was named "Outstanding Educator of America". Dr. Hom has served on the California State Board of Education and as a Trustee on the California State University System.
She received the Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of Outstanding Service to Education and the Education Reform Effort from the U.S. Department of Education and the award for distinguished and devoted services to education from the California Department of Education.
Gloria Hom served as President of the California Teachers Association, West Valley Chapter, the State Academic Senate and the Mission College Academic Senate. She was a member of the Advisory Committee of the White House Conference on Library and Information Services appointed by President Ronald Reagan. Gloria was appointed by President Bush to the Sallie Mae Board of Directors, (Student Loan Marketing Association), a Fortune Five Hundred Company and Region IX Education Director, Department of Education.
She has authored many journal articles and edited the book Chinese Argonauts, an Anthology of Chinese Contributions to the Historical Development of Santa Clara County.
