Japan's Energy Trends:  The Current Situation and Future Perspectives

Summary:  Power shortages are a big concern in Japan this summer due to the direct and indirect impacts of the disaster of March 11th 2011.  How Japan's energy policy and future energy mix should evolve in response to the disaster and its aftermath are hotly-debated issues. Ms. Inoue will discuss:
  • The 3/11 disaster overview (Earthquake, Tsunami and Nuclear accident)
  • The current situation - Reduced power supply
  • Short-term & Long-term countermeasures
  • Proposed energy policy and movements (e.g., Renewable Feed-in Tariffs (FIT), Smart Community)

Sayaka Inoue is CEO & Consultant for Eneleap Consulting, LLC.  Eneleap supports business development and strategy building for clean-tech companies.  Ms. Inoue spent 5 years at GE Energy, where she was a strategic planning & marketing analyst, and technical consultant.  Her areas of expertise include renewable energy, and smart grid and smart city planning.  Ms. Inoue is a frequent speaker at seminars and recently spoke at University of Tokyo and the Technology Information Center.  She graduated from University of Tokyo with a B.S. in Engineering.
